Cultural Exchange Programs and Volunteer Travel

Lena wanted a summer that did more than fill a calendar. She had saved for a flight and a plain room, and she wanted to teach English in a school that would still be there after she left. A friend sent two links. One offered a short stay in an orphanage, a certificate, and no need for teaching experience. The other offered a longer stay with a host family, a short course before the first lesson, and hours beside teachers who already knew the class.

The first page was easy to like. It showed a bright room, smiling children, and a line about making a real difference. Lena looked for the sentence that said who chose the lessons. She did not find it. The fee was called a contribution, but the page never said how much reached the school.
