Politeness is an important part of everyday communication in English-speaking countries. When you visit the United Kingdom, Canada, or the United States, you may notice people using specific words and phrases to show respect. These habits vary between countries, regions, and people, but polite language is useful in many situations. Being polite helps you make a good first impression and can make communication smoother.

The most basic polite words are "please" and "thank you." People use them all the time. For example, if you order a coffee, you say, "A latte, please." When you receive it, you say, "Thank you." This might seem simple, but in some languages, these words are not used as frequently as they are in English. Even if you are in a hurry, you should always include these words.

"Sorry" is another word that people use very often.
