Looking After My Neighbour's Dog for a Week

Agreeing to pet-sit for a close friend or neighbour is an enjoyable responsibility that quickly changes your daily routine. When my next-door neighbours went on holiday to Scotland last month, they asked if I could look after their energetic golden retriever, Barney. Barney is an affectionate two-year-old hound who loves running after tennis balls and demands continuous human companionship throughout the morning.

Every morning began at six o'clock because Barney would wake up early and bark gently beside my bedroom door. I had to take care of his breakfast immediately, mixing dry biscuits with nutritious meat before we set off toward the riverside park. Walking across wet meadows helped me wake up properly, although I constantly had to watch out for muddy puddles where Barney loved splashing.

During our afternoon walks, Barney occasionally ran into other dogs, which required firm supervision.
