California's Later School Start Law
In 2019, California enacted landmark educational legislation known as Senate Bill 328 to address widespread adolescent sleep deprivation by establishing later morning start times for secondary schools. Under this statute, public high schools cannot schedule mandatory academic classes before half past eight in the morning, while middle schools must commence no earlier than eight o'clock.
