Why I Deleted My Main Social Media Account

For nearly eight years, my primary social networking profile served as my default digital window onto the world, shaping how I discovered news, maintained casual acquaintances, and broadcast personal milestones. However, during a quiet rainy Sunday last November, an examination of my automated screen-time diagnostic metrics revealed an alarming truth: I was spending more than three hours each day mindlessly scrolling through algorithmic newsfeeds. The realization that thousands of hours were disappearing into frictionless digital consumerism prompted me to re-evaluate my daily relationship with online connectivity.

At first, I experimented with superficial mitigation measures such as setting thirty-minute daily application timers; however, I consistently overrode the warning notifications whenever boredom or fatigue set in. Furthermore, the algorithmic feed seemed intentionally calibrated to provoke social comparison, anxiety, and mild outrage rather than genuine intellectual curiosity.
