The Street the Map Chose
Eli had to reach a cafe before his sister left for work. He did not know the streets around it. He opened Google Maps and typed the name of the cafe.
The straight road showed red. Maps watches the traffic, the cars already moving slowly, and it can offer another way when a road is too busy. A blue line bent through side streets. Eli wanted the same cafe. He did not want to stand among cars he could not see from his corner, so he followed the blue line. The screen showed each turn. He did not need the name of every road.
People call this kind of choosing artificial intelligence. The program uses what it knows about busy roads, and then it picks a line. It does not know why you are going.
