II . The House of Straw The first little pig takes the north road . The sun is out . The birds sing in the trees . The little pig sings with them . He is a little sad , but he is happy too . He walks all morning . He walks past fields and small villages . At midday , he sits under a tree . He eats his piece of bread . “ Now I need a house , ” he thinks . “ But how do I make a house ? ” Then he sees a man on the road . The man has a big bundle of straw on his back . The straw is yellow and dry . The little pig goes up to the man . “ Good morning , ” he says . “ Good morning , little pig . ” “ Please , man , give me that straw . I want to build a house . ” The man looks at the little pig . Then he looks at his straw . “ A house of straw ? ” he asks . “ Yes . A little house , just for me . ” “ Well , here you are , ” says the man . And he gives the straw to the little pig . “ Thank you very much ! ” The man goes on down the road . The little pig looks at the straw and smiles . It is easy to build a house of straw . The little pig puts the straw on the ground . He makes four walls . He makes a roof . He makes a door and a small window . In the afternoon , the house is ready . It is small and yellow . It smells of the fields . The little pig goes into his house . He sits on the floor . He looks at the walls of straw . “ How nice ! ” he says . “ Now I have a house . My own house ! ” Then he thinks of his mother . “ Mum , I have a house now , ” he says quietly . And he smiles again . Soon a wolf comes along . He is a big grey wolf . He has long white teeth . And he is very hungry . The wolf sees the house of straw . He smells the air . “ Mmm , there is a little pig in there , ” he thinks . The wolf knocks at the door . Knock , knock , knock . “ Who is it ? ” asks the little pig . “ Little pig , little pig , let me come in . ” The little pig looks out of the window . It is a wolf ! The little pig is very afraid . But he answers : “ No , no , by the hair of my chiny chin chin ! ” The hair on his chin ? Yes , a little pig has a few small hairs there . And at this time , that is how little pigs talk . Then the wolf says : “ Then I’ll huff , and I’ll puff , and I’ll blow your house in ! ” And the wolf huffs , and he puffs . The straw flies into the air . The walls fall down . The roof falls down . The whole house falls down ! And the wolf eats up the little pig . Then the wolf goes off down the road . He is not hungry now .
