At night , the three bears go up the stairs to the bedroom . Each bear gets into his own bed . “ Good night , ” says the Great , Huge Bear in his great , rough , gruff voice . “ Good night , ” says the Middle Bear in his middle voice . “ Good night , ” says the Little , Small , Wee Bear in his little , small , wee voice . In the morning , when they get up , they open the bedroom window . Fresh air from the wood comes in . The three bears are very tidy . They like a clean house . II . The Hot Porridge One morning , the three bears get up early . The Little , Small , Wee Bear opens the bedroom window , like every day . “ Good morning , wood ! ” he says in his little , small , wee voice . The birds sing in the trees . The sun comes in at the window . It is going to be a lovely day . The three bears go down the stairs to the kitchen . They are very hungry . “ Today I am making the porridge , ” says the Middle Bear . The Middle Bear puts a pot on the fire . He puts milk in the pot . Then he puts in the oats . He turns a long spoon round and round in the pot . Soon the whole kitchen smells of porridge . The Great , Huge Bear gets the table ready . He puts out the great bowl , the middle bowl and the little bowl . Next to each bowl he puts a spoon . The Little , Small , Wee Bear looks at the pot . He cannot wait . “ Is the porridge ready ? ” he asks . “ Yes , it is ready , ” says the Middle Bear . The Middle Bear puts the porridge into the three bowls . He puts a lot of porridge into the great bowl . He puts a bit less into the middle bowl . And he puts only a little into the little bowl . The porridge is very hot . Steam comes up from the three bowls . The Little , Small , Wee Bear sits on his chair . He takes his spoon . “ I am so hungry ! ” he says . “ Let’s eat ! ” “ Wait , Little Bear ! ” says the Great , Huge Bear in his great , rough , gruff voice . “ The porridge is very hot . If you eat it now , you will burn your mouth . ” “ That’s true , ” says the Middle Bear . “ We must wait a little . ” “ Wait ? For how long ? ” asks the Little , Small , Wee Bear . “ Not long , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . “ Let’s go for a walk in the wood . When we come back , the porridge will be cool . ” “ A walk ! Yes , please ! ” says the Little , Small , Wee Bear . He puts his spoon down next to his bowl . He jumps off his chair . The three bears go out of the house . The Little , Small , Wee Bear looks at the door . “ Do we lock the door ? ” he asks . “ No , there is no need , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . “ We never hurt anyone . So who wants to hurt us ? ” So they do not lock the door . And up in the bedroom , the window stays open .
