The girl puts her head in at the door . She smells the porridge . “ Mmm ! Porridge ! ” she says . “ It smells so good ! ” What does a good girl do now ? A good girl waits at the door until somebody comes home . And this is the home of three very kind bears . They are sure to ask her in . They are sure to give her a bowl of porridge and a chair . But Goldilocks does not wait . She does not ask . She goes into the house . And she starts to take everything she wants . IV . Three Bowls of Porridge The bears ’ kitchen is little and clean . There is a pot on the fire . And on the table there are the three bowls of porridge . There is a great bowl , a middle bowl and a little bowl . Next to each bowl there is a wooden spoon . “ Which bowl shall I try first ? ” thinks Goldilocks . “ The great one , of course ! I am very hungry . ” She takes the great spoon . She tries the porridge in the great bowl . “ Ow , ow , ow ! It’s hot ! ” she cries . “ This porridge is too hot ! ” She puts her hand over her mouth . Her tongue hurts . Goldilocks is very angry . And she says a bad word . It is a very bad word , so I cannot write it here . Then she leaves the great spoon in the great bowl . The spoon stands up in the middle of the porridge . Next she takes the middle spoon . She tries the porridge in the middle bowl . “ Yuck ! ” she says . “ This porridge is too cold ! ” And she says another bad word . She leaves the middle spoon in the middle bowl too . And the spoon stands up in the middle of the porridge . Last of all , she takes the little spoon . She tries the porridge in the little bowl . This porridge is not too hot . It is not too cold . “ Mmm ! This porridge is just right ! ” she says . She likes it so much that she eats it all up . She eats and eats . She leaves nothing . Not one bit . But it is only a little porridge . And Goldilocks is still hungry . “ Is that all ? Is there no more ? ” she says . “ What a silly little bowl ! ” And she says a bad word about the little bowl , because there is not enough porridge in it for her . She leaves the little spoon in the empty bowl . She does not wash the bowls . She does not put anything back in its place . Poor Little , Small , Wee Bear ! Now there is no porridge for him . The bears ’ spoons are made of wood . They are not made of silver . And that is a good thing ! Silver spoons are worth a lot of money . If the spoons are silver , this naughty girl is sure to put them in her pocket and take them home !
