V . Three Chairs Now Goldilocks wants to sit down for a bit . Her feet hurt after the long walk . By the table there are three chairs . There is a great chair , a middle chair and a little chair . First she sits in the chair of the Great , Huge Bear . The cushion is as hard as a stone . “ Ugh ! This chair is too hard , ” she says . She gets up fast . She does not put the hard cushion straight again . Then she sits in the chair of the Middle Bear . The cushion is very soft . The girl sinks deep down into it . “ Oh ! This chair is too soft , ” she says . It is hard for her to get out of the chair . And the soft cushion stays flat and low . Last of all , she sits in the chair of the Little , Small , Wee Bear . It is not too hard . It is not too soft . “ Ah ! This chair is just right ! ” she says . Goldilocks is very happy in the little chair . She moves from side to side . She jumps up and down on the seat . She jumps and jumps , and she sings . But the chair is little , and Goldilocks is not so little . The chair makes a noise . Creak , creak , creak . And then . . . crack ! The seat of the chair breaks . And Goldilocks falls down onto the floor . Bump ! “ Ow , ow , ow ! ” she says . And she says another bad word . This time it is the worst word of all . She looks at the broken chair . “ What a bad chair ! ” she says . At the same time , the three bears are still on their walk in the wood . Now they are by the river . The water is cold and clear . The Little , Small , Wee Bear puts one foot in the water . “ Oh , it’s cold ! ” he says . But today he does not want to play in the river . He is very hungry . He thinks about his porridge all the time . “ Is the porridge cool now ? ” he asks . “ Not yet , ” says the Middle Bear . “ Wait a little more . ” The Little , Small , Wee Bear walks for a bit . Then he asks again . “ And now ? Is it cool now ? ” “ Not yet , Little Bear , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . “ Look at the river . Look at the trees . What a lovely day ! ” The Little , Small , Wee Bear looks at the river and the trees . But he does not think about the river . He does not think about the trees . He thinks about his bowl of porridge on the kitchen table . VI . Three Beds Goldilocks gets up from the floor . Her back hurts a little . But she does not mend the chair . She leaves it there on the floor , broken . “ I am so tired ! ” she says . “ I want to sleep for a bit . ” In the corner of the kitchen are the wooden stairs . Goldilocks goes up the stairs . The steps are high for a little girl . But she goes up slowly , one step at a time . At the top is the bedroom of the three bears . The bedroom window is open . Fresh air from the wood comes in . And in the bedroom there are three beds . There is a great bed , a middle bed and a little bed .
