“ What a funny house ! ” thinks Goldilocks . “ Here everything comes in threes . Three bowls , three chairs and three beds . ” First she lies down on the bed of the Great , Huge Bear . But this bed is too high at the head . “ Ugh ! My head is too high here , ” she says . “ I can’t sleep like this . ” She gets off the great bed . And the pillow of the Great , Huge Bear is not in its place now . Then she lies down on the bed of the Middle Bear . But this bed is too high at the foot . “ Oh ! My feet are too high here , ” she says . “ I can’t sleep like this either . ” She gets off the middle bed . And the pillow of the Middle Bear is not in its place now either . Last of all , she lies down on the bed of the Little , Small , Wee Bear . It is not too high at the head . It is not too high at the foot . And it is soft and clean . “ Ah ! This bed is just right ! ” she says . Goldilocks pulls the blanket up to her ears . She puts her head on the pillow . She closes her eyes . And soon she is asleep . She sleeps like a log . At the same time , in the wood , the Great , Huge Bear looks up at the sun . “ It is time , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . “ The porridge is not too hot now . ” “ At last ! ” says the Little , Small , Wee Bear . “ Let’s go home ! Let’s eat ! ” The three bears walk back along the path in the wood . This time , the Little , Small , Wee Bear goes first . He runs and runs . He is so hungry ! Soon they see their house between the trees . Now it is almost time to eat . VII . Home Again The Little , Small , Wee Bear gets to the door first . “ Mmm ! The porridge smells so good ! ” he says . The three bears go into the house . They go straight to the table . The Great , Huge Bear looks at his bowl . His wooden spoon is in the porridge . It stands up in the middle . “ Somebody has been at my porridge ! ” says the Great , Huge Bear in his great , rough , gruff voice . The Middle Bear looks at his bowl . His spoon stands up in the porridge too . “ Somebody has been at my porridge ! ” says the Middle Bear in his middle voice . Then the Little , Small , Wee Bear looks at his bowl . There is his spoon . But the porridge is not there . The bowl is empty ! “ Somebody has been at my porridge , and has eaten it all up ! ” says the Little , Small , Wee Bear in his little , small , wee voice . He looks at his empty bowl . His eyes are full of tears . “ My porridge ! ” he says . “ There is nothing left ! ” “ Little Bear , I can make you more porridge later , ” says the Middle Bear . The three bears look at each other . Something strange is going on in this house . “ What is going on here ? ” asks the Little , Small , Wee Bear . “ Let’s look around , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . The bears start to look all around the kitchen .
