The wolf lifts the latch . The door opens , and he goes into the house . He does not say a word . He goes straight to Grandma’s bed . He opens his mouth very wide . And he eats Grandma up in one big bite . The house is quiet again . Then the wolf looks for Grandma’s clothes . He puts on her long white nightdress . He puts on her nightcap . He looks in the mirror . He looks like a very odd grandma , with big ears and long teeth . But the wolf is happy . “ Very good , ” says the wolf . “ Now I am Grandma . ” Then he gets into the bed . He pulls the covers up to his nose . Grandma’s bed has curtains around it , like a little house . The wolf closes the curtains . “ Now I only have to wait , ” thinks the wolf . “ The girl is coming soon . And she is the best bite of all . ” VI . A Very Strange Grandma Red Riding Hood picks flowers and more flowers . She has so many that she cannot carry any more . Then she remembers Grandma . “ Grandma ! ” she says . “ I must go to her house ! ” She goes back to the path and walks fast . Now the sun is high , and it is hot . The girl has the flowers in one hand . With the other hand , she holds her apron . “ Grandma is going to love these flowers , ” she thinks . Soon she sees the three big oak trees and the small house . The door of the house is open . Red Riding Hood is surprised . “ Why is the door open ? ” she thinks . She goes into the house . It is all very quiet . The girl has a strange feeling . “ Oh dear ! What is wrong with me today ? ” she thinks . “ I feel so strange . But usually I am so happy at Grandma’s house . ” “ Good morning , Grandma ! ” she says in a loud voice . But no one answers . The girl puts the cake , the wine and the flowers on the table . Then she looks at the bed . The curtains are closed , and she cannot see Grandma . The girl goes to the bed and opens the curtains . There is Grandma . Her cap is pulled down over her face . She looks very strange . “ Oh , Grandma , what big ears you have ! ” says the girl . “ All the better to hear you with , my dear , ” says a deep voice . “ But , Grandma , what big eyes you have ! ” says Red Riding Hood . “ All the better to see you with , my dear . ” “ But , Grandma , what big hands you have ! ” “ All the better to hug you with . ” “ Oh , Grandma , what a big , terrible mouth you have ! ” “ All the better to eat you with ! ” And at that moment , the wolf jumps out of bed . He jumps on poor Red Riding Hood . And he eats her up in one bite . Now the wolf’s belly is very full . He lies down in the bed again . He closes his eyes and goes to sleep . Soon he starts to snore . He snores very loudly . You can hear him from the path .
