Snow White does not think of danger . She stands in front of the old woman . The old woman puts the new lace in the dress . Then she pulls the lace . She pulls it very fast and very hard . She pulls it tighter and tighter . “ Oh ! I cannot breathe ! ” says Snow White . But the old woman pulls even harder . Now the girl cannot breathe at all . She falls to the floor . She lies there , still and white . “ Now I am the most beautiful again ! ” the queen says to herself . And she runs back to her castle . In the evening , the seven dwarfs come home . They open the door . And they see Snow White on the floor ! She does not move . She looks dead . “ Snow White ! Snow White ! ” they cry . They lift her from the floor . And then they see the lace . It is very , very tight . “ Quick , a knife ! ” says one . They cut the lace . And slowly the girl starts to breathe again . She opens her eyes . She is alive ! “ What happened , Snow White ? ” asks the first dwarf . She tells them everything : the old woman , the basket and the new lace . “ That old woman was the queen , ” says the first dwarf . “ You must be more careful . When we are not at home , do not open the door to anyone . Not to anyone ! ” “ Yes , you are right , ” says Snow White . “ I will never open the door again . ” VI . The Comb The queen gets back to her castle . She goes straight to her mirror . “ Mirror , mirror on the wall , who is the most beautiful of all ? ” And again the mirror answers : “ My queen , you are beautiful , it is true . But over the hills , with the seven dwarfs , lives Snow White . And she is a thousand times more beautiful than you . ” The queen feels ice in her heart . “ Snow White ? She is still alive ? ” she shouts . “ But that is not possible ! ” This time the queen has a new plan . She knows a lot about magic . With her magic , she makes a very pretty comb . But the comb has poison in it . Then she dresses as an old woman again , but with other clothes and another face . Again the queen goes through the forest and over the hills . She comes to the little house and knocks at the door . “ Pretty things for sale ! Good things , cheap things ! ” she calls again . Snow White looks out of the window . “ I am sorry , ” she says . “ I cannot open the door to anyone . ” “ That is all right , child , ” says the old woman . “ But you can look , can’t you ? Just look at my combs . They are so pretty ! ” The old woman takes the comb out of her basket . She holds it up to the window . The comb shines in the sun . Snow White looks at it . She wants it very much . And she forgets what the dwarfs said . She opens the door and buys the comb . “ Come here , child , ” says the old woman . “ Let me comb your hair . ” “ Just for a moment , ” thinks Snow White . “ Only a moment . ”
