Then one evening , a real wolf comes out of the forest . The wolf is big and grey , with long white teeth . He walks slowly towards the sheep . Now the boy is very afraid . He shouts as loudly as he can : “ Wolf ! Wolf ! Please come and help me ! The wolf is killing the sheep ! ” In the village , the people hear him . “ It is that boy again , ” says a man . “ It is another one of his jokes . I am not going up that hill again . ” So nobody goes to help . The boy shouts and shouts , but nobody comes . The wolf kills one sheep , then another , then another . By the end of the evening , there are no sheep on the hill . The boy goes back to the village alone . He is crying . “ Why did you not come ? ” he asks the people . “ There was a real wolf this time ! ” “ How could we know ? ” says an old man . “ You told us lies again and again . So this time we did not believe you . ” Moral : Nobody believes a liar , even when he tells the truth . VI . The Fox and the Crow A crow steals a piece of meat . She flies up into a tree with it . She sits on a branch and holds the meat in her beak . A fox walks by under the tree . He smells the meat . He looks up and sees the crow . “ Mmm , that meat smells good , ” thinks the fox . “ I want it . But how can I get it ? ” Then he has a plan . “ Good morning , lovely bird ! ” he says in a sweet voice . The crow looks down , but she does not say a word . “ Oh , how pretty you are ! ” says the fox . “ What fine black feathers ! How they shine in the sun ! And what bright eyes ! ” The crow listens . She likes these words very much . She moves on her branch and shows off her feathers . “ You are the prettiest bird in the forest , ” the fox goes on . “ But what is your voice like ? Maybe it is not very good . If your voice is lovely too , you will be the Queen of the Birds ! ” The crow is very proud . “ My voice ? Not good ? ” she thinks . “ I will show him my voice ! ” She opens her beak and sings as loudly as she can : “ Caw ! Caw ! Caw ! ” And the meat falls out of her beak , right at the fox’s feet . The fox takes the meat very quickly . Then he looks up at the crow and laughs . “ Thank you , my good crow , ” he says . “ Your voice is fine . But you are not very clever . ” Then he runs away with the meat . The crow sits on her branch with nothing in her beak . Moral : Be careful of sweet words from someone who wants something from you .
