VIII . The Prince The frog hits the wall , and he falls down to the floor . But when he falls down , he is not a frog any more . A young man is standing in the room . He is tall , and he has lovely , kind eyes . He is a prince , the son of a king . The princess looks at him . She cannot believe her eyes . “ Who are you ? ” she asks . “ And where is the frog ? ” The young man smiles . “ I was the frog , ” he says . “ Please do not be afraid . I am a prince . ” “ But how ? ” asks the princess . “ How can a prince be a frog ? ” “ A wicked witch did it , ” he says . “ She put a spell on me , and she turned me into a frog . For a long time I lived in the well in the forest . I was cold and alone . ” “ That is terrible , ” says the princess . “ Only you could help me , ” says the prince . “ Nobody else in the whole world could get me out of that well . Only you . And you did it . I am free ! ” The princess looks at his kind eyes . The frog wanted to be her friend . Now the prince is her dear friend . And because her father wishes it , he is now her husband too . “ Tomorrow we will go to my kingdom together , ” says the prince . “ Your kingdom ? ” asks the princess . “ Is it far away ? ” “ Yes , ” he says . “ But we will go in a carriage . The journey will not be hard . ” It is late now . Outside , the night is dark and quiet . They go to sleep . IX . Faithful Henry The next morning , the sun shines in through the window . It wakes them up . Then they hear a noise outside . A carriage is coming up to the castle . Eight white horses pull it . The horses have white feathers on their heads . They have golden chains too , and the chains shine in the sun . At the back of the carriage stands a servant . His name is Henry . He is the prince’s servant . People call him Faithful Henry , because he loves his master very much . When his master became a frog , Henry was very , very sad . He was so sad that his heart almost broke . So he put three bands of iron round his heart . Iron is a hard , strong metal . The bands are still there now . They hold his heart together , so it does not break . Now the carriage is here to take the prince home to his kingdom . The princess goes down to say goodbye to her father . “ Goodbye , dear Father , ” she says . “ Goodbye , my child , ” says the old king . “ Be happy . ” Faithful Henry helps them both into the carriage . Then he takes his place at the back of the carriage again . He is so happy . His master is free at last !
