II . Seven at One Blow The little tailor looks at the seven flies . He cannot believe it . “ Look at that ! ” he says to himself . “ Seven at one blow ! What a man you are ! How brave you are ! ” A blow is a hard hit . And seven flies with one hit is a lot ! “ The whole town must know about this ! ” says the little tailor . He quickly cuts a belt out of cloth and sews it . Then he sews big letters on it : SEVEN AT ONE BLOW ! “ The town ? ” he says . “ No ! The whole world must hear about it ! ” His heart jumps with joy , like the tail of a little lamb . He puts the belt on . “ My workshop is too small for a brave man like me , ” he thinks . “ I must go out into the world . ” Before he goes , he looks round the house . What can he take with him ? He finds only an old cheese . He puts the cheese in his pocket . In front of the door , he sees a little bird . It is caught in a bush , and it cannot fly away . The tailor takes the bird out of the bush . He puts it in his pocket , next to the cheese . Then he walks away down the road . He is small and light . His feet are quick . He walks and walks , and he is not tired at all . The road goes up a mountain . At the top of the mountain there is a giant . A giant is a very , very big man . This giant is sitting there quietly . He is looking out at the world . The little tailor is not afraid . He walks right up to the giant . “ Good day , friend ! ” he says . “ So you are sitting here and looking at the big wide world ? I am on my way out into that world . I want to try my luck . Do you want to come with me ? ” The giant looks down at the little tailor . He does not think much of him . “ You ? ” says the giant . “ You poor little thing ! You are nothing ! ” III . The Giant on the Mountain “ Oh , is that so ? ” says the little tailor . He opens his coat and shows the giant his belt . “ Read this , ” he says . “ Then you will see what kind of man I am ! ” The giant reads the words on the belt : SEVEN AT ONE BLOW . “ Seven at one blow ! ” thinks the giant . “ This little man killed seven men with one hit ! ” The giant does not know about the flies . Now he has a little respect for the tailor . But first he wants to test him . The giant takes a stone in his big hand . He presses it hard , very hard . And water comes out of the stone . Drop , drop , drop . “ Now you do that , ” says the giant , “ if you are strong enough . ” “ Is that all ? ” says the tailor . “ That is child’s play for a man like me ! ” He puts his hand into his pocket . Out comes the soft cheese . He presses it hard , and water runs out of it . “ There , ” he says . “ That is a little better , isn’t it ? ” The giant does not know what to say . Such a little man , and so strong ! He cannot believe it . Then the giant picks up another stone . He throws it up into the air , very high . It goes so high that they can hardly see it . Then it comes down again .
