VIII . The Fight Under the Tree The little tailor starts his game again . He takes the biggest stone out of his pocket . He throws it down on the first giant’s chest with all his strength . “ That is too much ! ” shouts the first giant . He jumps up like a wild man . He pushes his friend against the tree . The whole tree shakes . The second giant pushes him back , just as hard . Now they are both very angry . They pull big trees out of the ground . They hit each other with them . They fight for a long , long time . At last they both fall down at the same moment . They do not get up again . The two giants are dead . The little tailor jumps down from the tree . “ That was lucky ! ” he says . “ They did not pull up my tree with me in it ! But that is no problem for me . We tailors are quick . We can jump from tree to tree , like squirrels . ” He takes out his sword . He pushes it into each giant twice . Then he goes out of the forest to the horsemen . “ The work is done , ” he says . “ I finished them both . But it was hard work ! They pulled trees out of the ground to fight me . But that did not help them . Nothing helps against a man like me . I kill seven at one blow ! ” “ But are you not hurt ? ” ask the horsemen . “ Don’t worry about that , ” says the tailor . “ They did not touch one hair on my head . ” The horsemen do not believe him . They ride into the forest to look . And there they find the two giants . They are lying dead on the ground . All round them lie the big trees from the fight . IX . The Unicorn The little tailor goes back to the king . “ The giants are dead , ” he says . “ Now give me what you promised me . ” But the king is sorry about his promise . Again he thinks , “ How can I send this man away ? ” “ You want my daughter and half of my kingdom ? ” says the king . “ First you must do one more great thing . There is a unicorn in the forest . It does a lot of harm . You must catch it . ” A unicorn is an animal like a horse . It has one long horn on its head . “ One unicorn ? ” says the tailor . “ I am even less afraid of one unicorn than of two giants . Seven at one blow , that is my kind of work ! ” He takes a rope and an axe . Then he goes to the forest . Some of the king’s men go with him . Again the tailor tells them to wait outside the forest . He has to look for a long time . But then the unicorn comes . It sees the tailor , and it runs straight at him . It wants to put its long horn right through him .
