While he was away , the princess put the powder into a cup . When the magician came back with the wine , they sat down to supper . After a while the princess gave a sign to her servant , and the servant brought her the cup with the powder . She gave it to the magician and took his cup . “ Let’s drink , ” she said . The princess only touched her cup with her lips . But the magician drank all his wine at once . A moment later he fell back in his chair , and he never moved again . Aladdin came in through the secret door . He took the lamp from the magician’s clothes and rubbed it . “ Genie , carry this palace back to China , to the same place where it stood before , ” he said . And in a moment the palace was back in China . The next morning the Sultan looked out of his window , full of sadness . At first he thought that he was seeing a mist . Then he looked more carefully and saw Aladdin’s palace in its place . He hurried there , put his arms around his daughter and cried with joy . The princess told him everything . “ Aladdin did nothing wrong , ” she said . So the Sultan put his arms around Aladdin too , and he ordered a ten - day feast for the whole city . X . The Roc’s Egg But the African magician had a younger brother . He was a magician too , and he was even more wicked . His magic sand told him that his brother was dead in China . A poor tailor’s son , now the husband of a sultan’s daughter , killed him with poison . The younger brother set off at once , because he wanted revenge . In the Sultan’s city he heard about Fatima , a holy woman who lived alone outside the city . People said that she could cure a headache with just one touch of her hand . In the middle of the night , the magician went into Fatima’s house with a knife . “ If you shout , I will kill you , ” he said . He took her clothes and put them on . He made her paint his face the same colour as her face . Then he put on her veil and took her stick . He promised not to hurt her , but he did not keep his promise . He killed her and hid her body in a well . The next day , dressed as Fatima , with the veil over his face , he walked towards Aladdin’s palace . On the way people kissed his hands . Nobody noticed anything . In front of the palace the crowd was so big that the princess heard the noise . When she learned that it was the holy woman , she sent for her . The false Fatima said a long , holy prayer for the princess . “ Please stay and live with me , ” she said . The magician agreed , because that was exactly what he wanted . But he never ate with the princess , because he could not eat with the veil over his face . One day the princess showed him the hall with twenty - four windows . “ What do you think of it ? ” she asked .
