Aladdin loved this idea , because he did not like to work with his hands . And now the mother had no more doubts . This man really was her husband’s brother , she thought . The next morning the magician bought Aladdin a fine suit of clothes . Then he showed him the city . They saw the streets with the best shops , the biggest mosques and the gardens of the Sultan’s palace . The Sultan was the king of that country . When they came home in the evening , the mother almost cried with joy . She was so happy to see her son in such fine clothes . “ Tomorrow is Friday , and the shops will be closed , ” said the magician . “ I will come for Aladdin , and we will walk in the gardens outside the city . On Saturday we will look for a shop . ” II . The Treasure Cave On Friday Aladdin got up very early and put on his new clothes . He left the city with the magician through one of the gates . Outside the walls there were great houses with lovely gardens . At each one the magician asked , “ Do you like this one ? ” In this way they walked further and further from the city . In one of the gardens they sat down next to a fountain . The magician took some cakes and fruit from his belt , and they ate together . Then they walked on across the fields , until they came near the mountains . “ Uncle , where are we going ? ” asked Aladdin . He was very tired . “ I can only see mountains here . If we go on , I won’t have the strength to walk back . ” “ Be brave , nephew , ” said the false uncle . “ I want to show you the loveliest garden of all . ” And he told the boy stories , so the way did not seem so long . At last they came to a narrow valley between two mountains . “ We will stop here , ” said the magician . “ Go and find some dry sticks for a fire . ” When the fire was burning , the magician threw a sweet - smelling powder into it . He said some magic words , and thick smoke rose into the air . Then the ground shook and opened in front of them . Under the earth they saw a flat , square stone with a bronze ring in the middle . Aladdin was afraid and wanted to run away . But the magician caught him and hit him so hard that he fell to the ground . “ Uncle , what have I done ? Why did you hit me ? ” cried the boy . “ I am your uncle , and now I am like a father to you . Don’t argue with me , ” said the magician . Then he spoke more kindly . “ Don’t be afraid , my boy . Under this stone there is a treasure , and it is for you . With it you will be richer than the greatest kings in the world . But only you can touch the stone and go in . I cannot . ”
