Meanwhile , Cassim’s wife was waiting at home . Night came , and her husband did not come back . She was very worried , and she ran to Ali Baba’s house . “ Cassim went to the cave , and he hasn’t come back , ” she said . “ I’m afraid . ” “ Don’t be afraid yet , ” answered Ali Baba . “ Perhaps he wants to come back in the dark , so that nobody sees him . ” The woman went home and waited until midnight . But Cassim did not come . She had to cry quietly , so that the neighbours did not hear anything . “ Why did I want to know my brother - in - law’s secret ? ” she thought . She cried all night . In the morning she ran to Ali Baba’s house again . At once Ali Baba went to the forest with his three donkeys . Near the door of the cave he saw blood on the ground , and he knew that something terrible had happened . Inside he found his brother’s body . Cassim had never loved him very much , but he was still his brother . Ali Baba wanted to give him a proper funeral . He wrapped the body in some cloth , put it on one donkey and covered it with wood . On the other two donkeys he put bags of gold . He waited until night , and then he went back into the town . He left the gold at his own house . Then he took the third donkey to his sister - in - law’s house . IV . A Secret Well Kept Morgiana opened the door . She was a slave in Cassim’s house . A slave is a person who belongs to another person and works for no money . Morgiana was young , brave and very clever , and she could always find an answer to the hardest problems . Ali Baba knew her well . “ Morgiana , ” he said quietly , “ here is your master’s body . We must bury him . But everybody must believe that he died of an illness , in his own bed . Can you help us ? ” Then he went to the widow and told her what had happened . She wept , but very quietly , because nobody outside the family could know about this . “ I want to take care of you , ” said Ali Baba . “ If you agree , I will marry you , and you will live with my family . But you must keep our secret and leave everything to Morgiana . ” In that country and at that time , a man could have more than one wife . His words gave her a little peace , and she agreed . Morgiana did not waste any time . She went to a shop that sold medicines and asked for some pills for a very sick man . “ Who is sick ? ” asked the shopkeeper . “ My good master Cassim , ” she said sadly . “ He can’t speak , and he can’t eat . Nobody knows what is wrong with him . ” The next day she went back to the same shop , crying . This time she asked for a stronger medicine . It was the kind that people give to a sick person at the very end . “ Oh , I am going to lose my good master ! ” she said . The neighbours also saw Ali Baba and his wife going to Cassim’s house and back many times , with sad faces . So in the evening , when people heard loud cries from the house , nobody was surprised . Everybody believed that his illness had killed him .
