The Ghost smiled . “ Let us see another Christmas ! ” The boy grew older and taller , and the room grew darker and dirtier . The boy was alone again . He was walking up and down sadly . Then the door opened , and a little girl ran in . She put her arms around his neck and kissed him again and again . “ Dear , dear brother ! ” she said . “ I have come to bring you home ! ” “ Home , little Fan ? ” asked the boy . “ Yes ! Home for good ! Father is so much kinder now , and home is like heaven . I asked him again if you could come home , and he said yes ! We’re going to be together all Christmas , and we’re going to have the merriest time in the world ! ” She pulled him towards the door , and he went with her happily . The schoolmaster brought out some cake and wine , and soon the children were driving away in a coach through the snow . “ She was always a weak little thing , ” said the Ghost , “ but she had a big heart ! She died a young woman , and she had children , I think . ” “ One child , ” answered Scrooge . “ True , ” said the Ghost . “ Your nephew ! ” Scrooge looked uncomfortable , and he answered shortly , “ Yes . ” V . Fezziwig and Belle A moment later they were in the busy streets of a city . It was Christmas Eve again , and the shops were bright . The Ghost stopped at the door of a big storehouse full of goods and asked Scrooge if he knew it . “ Know it ! ” said Scrooge . “ I was an apprentice here ! ” An apprentice was a young man who worked for a master to learn his trade . Behind a very high desk sat an old man in a wig . “ Why , it’s old Fezziwig ! ” cried Scrooge . “ Bless his heart , it’s Fezziwig alive again ! ” Old Fezziwig looked at the clock . It was seven . He rubbed his hands and laughed all over his big , kind face . “ Yo ho , there ! Ebenezer ! Dick ! ” he called in a rich , jolly voice . Young Scrooge ran in with another young apprentice , Dick Wilkins . “ Poor Dick ! ” said the old Scrooge . “ He liked me very much , did Dick . ” “ No more work tonight , my boys ! ” cried Fezziwig . “ It’s Christmas Eve ! Put up the shutters , and clear everything away ! ” In a few minutes the floor was swept , the lamps were lit , and coal was heaped on the fire . The storehouse was as warm and bright as a ballroom . In came a fiddler with his music . In came Mrs Fezziwig , one big smile , and the three Miss Fezziwigs , and all the young people who worked in the business . Soon twenty couples were dancing around the room . There were more dances and games , with cake , cold meat and mince pies . The best moment came when old Fezziwig danced with Mrs Fezziwig . They danced better than anyone ! At eleven o’clock the party ended . Mr and Mrs Fezziwig stood on each side of the door . They shook hands with every guest and wished them a merry Christmas .
