The little people shouted with joy and danced on my chest . Sometimes I wanted to grab forty or fifty of them and throw them down . But I remembered the arrows . Besides , they had fed me like a guest . So I lay quietly . Then an officer of their Emperor walked up to my face . He spoke and pointed towards the capital city , half a mile away . I made signs that I wanted to be free , but he shook his head . I had to go there as a prisoner . Next they put a sweet - smelling cream on my face and hands . The pain went away . Soon I fell asleep again . Their doctors had put a sleeping drink into the wine . II . The Man - Mountain While I slept , five hundred workers built a great wooden frame on twenty - two wheels . Nine hundred strong men lifted me onto it with ropes and poles . Then fifteen hundred of the Emperor’s biggest horses pulled me towards the city . Each horse was about four and a half inches high . On the way I woke up with a loud sneeze . Some young soldiers had climbed up to look at my face . One of them pushed the point of his spear into my nose . It tickled like a straw , and I sneezed so hard that they all ran away . The next day we stopped near the city gates . There was an old empty temple there , the biggest building in the kingdom . They decided that I should live in it . Its door was four feet high , so I could creep in on my hands and knees . The Emperor’s workers put ninety - one small chains on my left leg . Then they cut all the strings , and I stood up . I looked around . The whole country was like one big garden . The fields were like beds of flowers , and the tallest trees were only seven feet high . The town looked like a painted city in a theatre . Later I learned that this country was called Lilliput . Soon the Emperor rode up to see me . His horse was frightened , because to the horse I was a mountain that moved . But the Emperor was a fine rider , and he got down safely . He walked around me with great wonder , but he stayed out of reach of my chain . He was taller than all his court by about the width of my fingernail . He wore a gold helmet with jewels , and he held his sword in his hand . It was almost three inches long . I lay on my side so that my face was near his . He spoke to me , and I answered . I tried Dutch , Latin , French , Spanish and Italian . But neither of us understood a word .
