Jonah's Ride Across the City
Jonah wants to reach Ana before her train leaves. She is waiting on the far side of the city, and her house key is still in his pocket. A taxi would be easy, but he cannot read the fare on the sign, and he does not want an argument. The metro entrance is across the square. He walks toward it.
Last night his host wrote two rules on a card. Buy the ticket before you board. Stamp it at the machine by the gate. Jonah reads the card twice. At the machine he pays with his card and takes one ticket, not a day pass. He only needs this ride. He stamps the ticket, watches the machine mark it, and puts it in his front pocket. If someone checks tickets, he wants to find it fast.
