The Email About the Coat

Priya found a blue coat on a chair in the hotel breakfast room. The guest, Mr. Berg, was already on a train. In the pocket she found a house key on a red string. She wanted him to know before evening. A key at the hotel is no help if it is not at his door.

His email was on the paper from his stay. Priya opened a new message and began to type. She thanked him for the visit. She hoped his train was fine. She wrote that the staff liked his questions at breakfast. The key and the coat were only in the last lines.

She stopped and read the email out loud. It sounded kind, and it sounded slow. A man on a train needs the key, not a long thank you.
