Colors and Shapes on Road Signs
Road signs use colors and shapes to give information. In Britain, a red circle often tells drivers what they must not do. A blue circle usually tells drivers what they must do.
A triangle usually gives a warning. It can show a bend, a hill or animals on the road. A rectangle often gives information. It can show a place, a road or a direction. There are a few special signs too. The STOP sign is red and has eight sides.
The shape and color tell you something before you read the words. First look at the shape, and then look at the color. Which road signs do you see near your home? What colors and shapes do they have?
