The Recipe on the Scanner

Nora wants her grandmother's recipe off the paper and onto the computer before the card tears. The card is old, and one corner is soft. She cooks from it often. She wants one file that shows the whole card, including the faint line at the bottom.

The scanner sits beside the monitor. It reads a paper document and makes a picture file, much like a camera pointed at a page. Nora lays the card face down and closes the lid. The first scan cuts off the soft corner, so the title is missing. She opens the lid, sets the card straight, and scans again. This time the title is there. The last line is not clear. The picture is darker than the paper in her hand.

The monitor is a thin screen. A button on the frame changes the brightness.
