The Lock from the Bus
Owen was already on the bus when he thought of the front door. He had pulled it shut, but he could not remember turning the key. His bag was on his lap. His keys were in it. The door was back at the flat, and the bus was not going to turn around.
He wanted one thing before he reached work: to know the door was locked. He took out his phone and opened the app for his house. The app asked for his code. He typed it. The lock on his front door is a small connected lock. It joins the Wi-Fi in the flat, and the app reaches it over the internet. People call a network of objects like this the Internet of Things: everyday things, such as a lock or a lamp, that can receive a message over the internet.
