My Mother on the Screen
My mother lives in another city. I cannot see her often. Today a cake sits on my table, and it is still warm. I want her to see it. I want her face, not only her voice. On a phone call I can hear her, but I cannot see her smile. A video call is different. It is like a phone call, and I can also see the person.
I need a camera, and I need the internet. My phone has a camera. My computer has a camera too, but the computer stays on the desk. The cake is on the table, so I use the phone. I can hold it and turn it. The internet connects the call. I sit down, I open the call, and I wait.
The screen is dark for a moment.
