Hotel Check-in

Paul is tired. His bus was late, and he wants a bed in this city tonight. He has a reservation at a hotel near the station. He pulls his bag into a bright hall and walks to the reception. A receptionist looks up and smiles. Paul says his name. He puts his passport and the reservation on the desk. The paper shows his name and the kind of room. It does not show a bed he can touch yet. He wants that part to happen soon.

The receptionist looks at the computer. For a moment Paul thinks the booking is lost. Then she nods. She finds his name. She asks for a credit card, and she says he can pay when he leaves. Paul gives her the card. He signs a short form. His hand is slow because he is tired, but the form is not long.
