The Page the Agent Could See

Helen wanted to be on the evening flight to Madrid for a meeting she could not move, and the check-in agent would not print a boarding pass from a website. He wanted her passport, and he wanted the visa inside it. She had spent the morning on a page that tried to explain entry rules for the whole world. It offered her ESTA, the Canadian eTA, and a chart with no line that matched the page in her passport. The visa in her passport said Schengen.

He looked at two dates, and they were not the same fact. On the visa he checked the days it covered against the days she meant to be in Spain. On the passport he checked the date the passport itself expired. A visa can be in date while a passport is too close to its end.
