The Grey Cover

Nadia wanted a choice before people left the room. Two covers were in her bag, one grey and one blue. She still had to carry one of them downstairs, and she did not want to choose alone.

She came in while the chairs were still moving. She wanted to speak first. Mr Okonkwo was already at the head of the table, so she sat at the side and put the bag on her lap. The covers made a flat shape against her knees. She kept her hands there.

Okonkwo spoke first. He asked for updates. Tomas talked about a late van. The driver called from the road, and the boxes were not close yet. A woman from the front desk talked about labels that were still missing. She said nothing could go out without a name on it.
