The News in the First Line
Priya had the email open, and she could not press send. The cloth samples for Ms Rahman were going to arrive later than the studio had promised. Priya wanted her to know before she planned a meeting around a box that would not be there. She also wanted the note to sound kind, not cold.
So the first lines were soft. Priya wrote that she hoped Ms Rahman was well. She wrote a warm line about the color of the cloth. The late news sat in the middle, after the word however, where a busy person might never stop.
Ben was at the next desk, waiting for a file to open. He glanced over. "Read me the first sentence," he said.
Priya read it aloud. "I hope you are well, and that the week is going smoothly."
