Helen Asked for Her Shoes

Helen had her coat on under the blanket when Dr. Okonkwo came back with the chart. Visiting hours were over. Her sister was already on a night shift, and the children would wake to a neighbor who had said she could not stay. Helen wanted her shoes. He wanted her in the bed until morning.
