The Answer She Almost Invented

Mara was keeping a printer waiting, and one client would not say yes. Mr Park, in Seoul, had liked the box on the video call. He had turned it in his hands, nodded at the type, and then gone quiet in a way that made her start writing his answer for him.

She wanted that answer out loud before the call ended. The printer had other jobs behind hers, and she had told them she would know when this conversation was over. If he did not want the design, she could let them go and stop treating the work as alive. If he did want it, she needed him to say so while both of them were still there. A kind maybe would leave her guessing in email for days.

"We should look at this carefully," he said.
