Summer in Australia
Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere. Its seasons are different from the seasons in Europe and North America.
In most of Australia, summer is December, January, and February. Autumn is March, April, and May. Winter is June, July, and August. Spring is September, October, and November. A season is a part of the year.
Why are the seasons different? The Earth is tilted. In December, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun. Australia gets more direct sunlight. It is summer there. At the same time, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun. It is winter there.
Six months later, the seasons change. In June, Australia is tilted away from the Sun. Days are shorter, and winter begins in most of Australia. In Europe and North America, summer begins.
Australia is a large country. The weather is not the same everywhere.
