White Clothes at Wimbledon

Mia visits Wimbledon with her uncle. Wimbledon is a tennis tournament. It is played on grass courts. Mia looks at the green grass and says, "I can see why the court is special."

At the entrance, they get a map. Her uncle points to Centre Court. "We can watch a match from there," he says. They find their seats and wait for the players.

A player walks onto the court in a white shirt and white shoes. At Wimbledon, players must wear tennis clothes that are almost all white. Mia can see that the rule makes the court look bright.

Her uncle tells her one more fact. The first Wimbledon tournament was held in 1877. Mia writes the year in her notebook. "Can people still play here on grass?" she asks. "Yes, they can," he says.

A match begins.
