Vasa: A Ship in a Museum

In Stockholm, Sweden, there is a museum with a very old ship. The ship is called Vasa. It is a wooden warship. Today, Vasa is inside the Vasa Museum.

People built Vasa in Stockholm. The work started in 1626 and finished in 1628. The ship had cannons and sails. It was ready for its first trip.

On 10 August 1628, Vasa left Stockholm. Then it sank in the harbour. It sailed for only about 20 minutes.

Vasa was under the water for a very long time. In 1956, a researcher found the ship in Stockholm's harbour. In 1961, workers brought it above the water. It was under water for 333 years.

Today, visitors can see the ship at the Vasa Museum. They can also see objects from Vasa. Museum workers care for the ship.

Vasa tells a real story about Sweden in 1628.
