The Story of Android: How It All Started
In October 2003, in Palo Alto, California, Andy Rubin wanted a camera that could do more than take a picture. He started a small company with three friends: Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White. They called it Android. They wanted a system for digital cameras, so a camera could connect to a computer and to the internet. That was the first plan.
The plan changed. They saw phones in more and more hands. A camera could stay in a bag. A phone went out with a person every day. They wanted the new system on the phone, and they wanted many companies to be able to use it, not one company alone. The camera was the wrong object. The phone was already in the pocket.
In July 2005, Google bought Android. Rubin and his friends went to work there.
