El objetivo era cambiar la prioridad del espacio. Los peatones pasaron a ser los protagonistas. Los coches podían entrar, pero no recorrer toda la calle seguida. Tenían que girar a cada manzana.
En todo momento, el proyecto mantuvo el acceso a los aparcamientos. También podían pasar los servicios y los vehículos de emergencia.
La obra creó cuatro plazas nuevas en cruces de Consell de Cent. Están en las calles Rocafort, Comte Borrell, Enric Granados y Girona.
Los ejes verdes tienen una sola altura, sin la antigua diferencia entre acera y calzada. En ellos, los vehículos son invitados y circulan a baja velocidad.
El proyecto también añadió más espacio para sentarse, jugar y caminar. En los cuatro ejes y sus plazas, el Ayuntamiento anunció más de cuatrocientos árboles.
En julio de 2023, el Ayuntamiento ya llamaba a Consell de Cent el nuevo eje verde. Ese año, la fiesta de La Mercè usó la calle como escenario para actividades al aire libre.
La calle no dejó de tener movimiento, pero cambió quién tenía prioridad. Ahora ofrece un ejemplo concreto de cómo una obra puede cambiar el uso de un espacio urbano.
