Las Médulas están en la provincia de León, en el noroeste de España. El paisaje tiene montañas de tierra roja y muchos castaños.
En el siglo I, los romanos empezaron a buscar oro allí. Usaron mucha agua y una gran red de canales. El trabajo minero continuó durante unos dos siglos y cambió la forma de las montañas.
Desde 1997, Las Médulas forman parte del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO. El lugar conserva minas, canales y restos de antiguos asentamientos.
Nuestra reserva era del viernes al domingo, a finales de octubre. Elegimos una casa a unos veinte kilómetros de Ponferrada.
El viernes salimos a las cinco de la tarde. Llegamos a la casa a las ocho. La dueña nos dio un mapa y explicó las normas.
El sábado caminamos por un sendero entre los castaños. Visitamos un mirador por primera vez y vimos las formas rojas del paisaje.
El domingo fuimos al aula arqueológica del pueblo. Allí conocimos mejor la historia de la mina romana. Después comimos y volvimos a casa.
