This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky’s novella Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Тіні забутих предків, 1912), retold in simple standard Ukrainian without the Hutsul dialect of the original. Level A2 suits readers who know the basics: sentences of about 9 words, past-tense narration and plenty of dialogue. You will learn words for the mountains, the forest, sheep and village life, a few Hutsul words explained in the text, and past-tense verb endings for he and she.
