This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of Taras Shevchenko’s narrative poem The Servant Girl (Наймичка, 1845), retold in simple standard Ukrainian prose. Level A2 suits readers who know the basics: sentences of about 9 words, past-tense narration and many short dialogues. You will learn words for the farmstead, family and wedding customs, a few old words explained in the text, and past-tense verbs with their prefixes.
