Pretérito indefinido and imperfecto in narration, polite commands with usted, vocabulary of the colonial city, the Church and the night explained in the text, direct speech in Spanish quotation marks
This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of five traditional legends of colonial Mexico (La Mulata de Córdoba, La Llorona, Don Juan Manuel, La mujer herrada and La calle de Olmedo), retold in simple Spanish in 10 chapters from the verse versions of Vicente Riva Palacio and Juan de Dios Peza (1884). Level A2 suits learners who know the past tenses: sentences of about 10 words, the pretérito indefinido and imperfecto, and plenty of dialogue. You will learn the vocabulary of the old city, its churches and its night fears, polite commands with usted and the contrast between background and events in the past.
