This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of Ivan Franko’s narrative poem Moses (Мойсей, 1905), retold as simple modern Ukrainian prose. After forty years in the desert, the old prophet stands with his people at the border of the promised land, but a new generation led by Dathan and Abiram no longer wants to follow him, and he goes alone into the desert, where his faith is put to the test. Level B1 suits learners who know the past tense: sentences of about 11 words, more than half of the text in direct speech, a short prologue and 13 chapters. You will learn biblical and pastoral words, the language of persuasion and quarrel, and the imperative.
