Mara wanted six days in Lisbon that her whole group could finish without a fight . Her sister wanted food . Her father wanted rest . Her friend wanted to walk the old streets . Mara wanted a museum and a look at the river . Four people , one itinerary , and the first draft was already too full . She opened a map and saw the problem at once . Lisbon sits on hills above the Tagus . A morning that started in Alfama , crossed the city to a market , and ended at a museum was not a plan . It was a race . Her father would stop on the first hill . Her sister would miss lunch . Her friend would enjoy the walk , and nobody else would . So she gave each day one main thing and left the afternoon lighter . Monday was Alfama : a slow walk through the old lanes , a look at the castle if the climb felt easy , and lunch nearby . She did not add a second neighborhood . Tuesday was food . They would go to Belém , see the monastery from the square , and eat the custard tarts the area is known for . That was enough . Wednesday was the museum her sister had agreed to , with a café afterwards and no list of extra rooms . She kept Thursday almost empty . Her father had asked for one day with nothing written down . They could sit by the river , stay in , or follow a street that looked interesting . If someone was tired , Thursday could absorb it . If someone found a bakery they loved , Thursday could hold a second visit . She wrote nothing else on that line . On Friday she put them on a tram through the old center . She had read that the famous line is crowded , so they would ride it once and then walk . Saturday was a market in the morning and the flight in the evening . She stopped there . She did not add a night tour , a cooking class , or a second castle . When she sent the plan , her friend wrote , " Where is the long walk ? " Mara answered that the long walk was whatever they still wanted after lunch . Her father sent one line : " Thursday is perfect . " She read it twice and closed the map .
