En mi casa tengo un animal pequeño y muy bonito. Se llama Saltarín. Es un hámster blanco con manchas marrones. Tiene los ojos negros y redondos como botones.
Saltarín vive en una jaula grande. La jaula tiene una rueda para correr, un túnel para esconderse y una casita de madera. El hámster corre en la rueda todas las noches. Hace mucho ruido cuando corre.
Todos los días yo doy de comer a Saltarín. Le doy semillas de girasol, manzana pequeña y verduras verdes. También le pongo agua fresca en su botella especial. El hámster bebe agua de una boquilla metálica.
A Saltarín le gusta llenar sus mejillas de comida. Parece que tiene dos bolsas grandes en la cara. Luego esconde la comida debajo de la viruta de madera. Es muy divertido ver cómo guarda su comida.
Los sábados limpio la jaula de Saltarín. Quito la viruta vieja y pongo viruta nueva. Lavo la rueda y el túnel con agua tibia. Saltarín se queda en una caja pequeña mientras yo limpio.
A veces saco a Saltarín de la jaula. Lo pongo en una pelota transparente para que corra por el piso. La pelota tiene agujeros pequeños para que respire. Saltarín corre mucho y explora cada rincón de la habitación.
Mi hermana pequeña tiene miedo de tocar al hámster. Dice que se mueve muy rápido. Pero yo le enseño a poner la mano plana para que Saltarín suba solo. Así mi hermana no tiene miedo.
Los hámsters duermen durante el día y despiertan por la noche. Por eso no puedo jugar con Saltarín por la mañana. Lo despierto solo cuando necesito limpiar su jaula.
El hámster no hace olores fuertes si limpio bien. Papa dice que es un animal muy limpio y fácil de cuidar. Mama dice que es mejor que un perro para un niño pequeño.
A veces pongo música suave cerca de la jaula. Saltarín se queda quieto y escucha. Parece que le gusta la música clásica. Cuando pongo música rock, corre más rápido en su rueda.
Saltarín tiene el pelo muy suave. Lo acaricio con un dedo muy suave. Nunca lo agarro fuerte porque es muy delicado. Un hámster es una mascota pequeña pero muy especial.
Yo quiero mucho a mi hámster. Es mi primera mascota propia. Tengo mucha responsabilidad porque debo cuidarlo todos los días. Mi amigo Pedro también quiere comprar un hámster después de ver a Saltarín.
