Miguel de Cervantes es el escritor más famoso de España. Nace en Alcalá de Henares en mil quinientos cuarenta y siete. Es el padre de la novela moderna.

Cervantes escribe muchos libros interesantes. Su obra más importante se llama Don Quijote de la Mancha. Este libro habla de un caballero loco y su escudero Sancho Panza. Es una historia muy divertida y también triste.

El escritor vive una vida aventurera. Va a la guerra contra los turcos. Los piratas capturan a Cervantes. Pasa cinco años prisionero en Argel. Después vuelve a España pobre y enfermo.

Cervantes trabaja como recaudador de impuestos. También escribe poemas y obras de teatro. Pero nadie le paga bien por su trabajo. Vive en casas humildes de Madrid y Valladolid.

Don Quijote se publica en dos partes. La primera parte sale en mil seiscientos cinco. La segunda parte aparece en mil seiscientos quince. El libro es un éxito inmediato. Toda Europa lee esta novela.

El escritor muere en Madrid en mil seiscientos dieciséis. Muere un día antes de la Pascua. No sabe que su libro se vuelve el más importante de la literatura española. Hoy Cervantes descansa en un monumento hermoso de Madrid.

La lengua española se llama también lengua de Cervantes. Su obra es patrimonio de la humanidad. Estudiantes de todo el mundo leen Don Quijote. La historia de este caballero loco es universal.
