We practice shooting and passing. My friend Sam is very good at shooting. He makes many baskets. I am good at passing the ball to my teammates.
To play basketball, you need a ball. The ball is orange and bouncy. It is not too heavy and not too light. You need to wear sports shoes. The shoes help you run and stop quickly. You should wear comfortable clothes too. I wear a jersey and shorts. My jersey has my favorite number on it. My number is seven.
There are rules in basketball. You cannot run with the ball. You must bounce the ball when you move. This is called dribbling. You cannot hold the ball for too long. You must pass or shoot within a few seconds. You cannot push or hit other players. The referee watches the game and blows a whistle when someone breaks a rule.
I have a favorite basketball player. His name is LeBron James. He is very famous. He is tall and strong. He plays for a professional team. He can jump very high. He can shoot from far away. I watch his games on television. I try to copy his moves. I practice every day to become better.
Basketball teaches me many things. It teaches me teamwork. I must pass the ball to my teammates. I cannot win alone. It teaches me discipline. I must practice regularly to improve. It teaches me sportsmanship. I must respect the other team. I must accept defeat gracefully.
I watch basketball games on TV too. The professional players are amazing. They run fast and jump high. The games are very exciting. The crowd cheers loudly. The music plays during breaks. It is like a show. My father and I watch the finals together. We eat snacks and shout for our favorite team.
I want to join a basketball team next year. My school has a basketball club. They practice every Monday and Wednesday. I will ask my teacher if I can join. I hope I can play in tournaments. I want to win a trophy for my school. But even if I do not win, I will enjoy playing.
Basketball is more than a game to me. It is my passion.
