Lucy is a high school student , and she loves nature very much . Every Saturday morning , she works at the green community garden in her neighborhood . The garden is a wonderful place where neighbors grow sweet strawberries , fresh vegetables , and organic herbs together . Lucy usually arrives at nine o'clock . The morning is very quiet and peaceful . She enjoys the warm sun and the rich smell of wet soil . First , she checks her small plot of red tomatoes . Do they need more water today ? Yes , they do . She carefully waters them with her green watering can . Many different people volunteer in the garden . Mr . Green , a retired school teacher , is always there early . He knows everything about plants and vegetables . Today , Lucy asks him some questions : " Mr . Green , why do my sweet strawberries grow so slowly ? Does this soil need more organic compost ? " Mr . Green smiles and says : " No , it doesn't . Your soil is actually very healthy . Strawberries just need more direct sunlight . Do you want to move them to a sunnier spot next week ? " Lucy agrees with his excellent advice . Not everyone works on the same tasks in the garden . Some volunteers paint the wooden fences , while others plant colorful flowers . However , they don't use any chemical pesticides in this garden . They only use natural organic methods . This is an important rule that everyone follows . In the afternoon , Lucy sits on a wooden bench under a big tree to rest . She drinks some cold lemonade and talks to other volunteers . " What do you plan to grow in autumn , Emily ? Do you prefer orange pumpkins or sweet carrots ? " she asks her friend . Emily replies : " I don't like pumpkins , but I love carrots ! I want to plant some carrots next month . Do you want some seeds ? " At three o'clock , the work finishes . Lucy cleans her tools and says goodbye to her friends . She feels tired but very happy . On her way home , she thinks : " Do you want to live in a greener world ? Active community gardens are a great way to start . "
