Lo primero que hicimos fue ponernos nuestros delantales. Mi madre tiene uno blanco muy grande y el mío es azul con dibujos de cocineros pequeños. Luego, fuimos a la nevera para sacar todos los ingredientes que necesitábamos para nuestra receta saludable.
Sacamos tres zanahorias, dos patatas grandes, un puerro y un poco de apio. Mi madre me explicó que las verduras frescas son fundamentales para que la sopa tenga mucho sabor y vitaminas. También buscamos una bolsa de fideos pequeños de esos que parecen estrellitas.
Mi madre me enseñó cómo lavar las verduras con agua fría en el fregadero. Teníamos que quitar toda la tierra de las patatas y las zanahorias. Después de lavarlas, las pusimos todas sobre la mesa de la cocina para empezar a cortarlas con mucho cuidado.
Como soy pequeño, mi madre cortó las patatas y el puerro con un cuchillo grande. Yo usé un cuchillo de plástico especial para niños para ayudar a cortar las zanahorias en trozos pequeños. Es un trabajo que requiere mucha paciencia para que todos los trozos sean parecidos.
Pusimos una olla gigante al fuego con un poco de aceite de oliva. Primero echamos el puerro y esperamos a que se pusiera un poco transparente. El olor que salía de la olla ya era maravilloso y me daba mucha hambre solo de olerlo desde la puerta.
Luego añadimos el resto de las verduras y un poco de sal. Mi madre me dejó echar el agua con una jarra grande. Teníamos que llenar la olla hasta la mitad para que hubiera suficiente caldo para todos nosotros. Tapamos la olla y esperamos a que el agua empezara a hervir.
Mientras la sopa se cocinaba a fuego lento, mi madre me explicó algunos secretos de cocina. Por ejemplo, que el apio le da un toque muy fresco a las sopas y que las patatas ayudan a que el caldo sea un poco más espeso y rico. Me encanta aprender estas cosas.
Después de treinta minutos, las verduras ya estaban blandas. Entonces fue el momento de echar los fideos de estrellitas. Los fideos se cocinan muy rápido, solo necesitan unos cinco o diez minutos. Yo removía la sopa con una cuchara de madera muy larga con mucho cuidado.
Cuando la sopa estuvo lista, mi madre probó un poco con una cuchara pequeña para ver si necesitaba más sal. Dijo que estaba perfecta y que yo había hecho un trabajo excelente ayudándola. Estábamos muy orgullosos de nuestra sopa casera.
Pusimos la mesa con manteles individuales y servilletas de papel. Servimos la sopa en unos cuencos grandes de cerámica. El humo que salía de los platos olía a gloria. Mi padre llegó a la cocina justo en ese momento y dijo que olía mejor que en un restaurante de cinco estrellas.
